Uniform information

St. James Episcopal School Dress Code

Students enrolled in the Primary program are required to wear a uniform. The parent shares the responsibility with the student to ensure the dress code is followed.  Maintaining the standard is both appreciated and expected.

Primary students may wear any of the options listed at Risse Brothers. Kindergarten students will be required to wear the dress uniform when serving in Chapel, going on field trips, for programs, and other special days. School spirit t-shirts may be worn with solid colored shorts or jeans on Fridays.

Primary General Uniform Information:

  • Uniforms can be purchased from Risse Brothers.
  • Students can also wear St. James logo t-shirts in navy blue or red with sweatpants or gym pants.
  • Each item of clothing should be clearly marked with child’s name.
  • Sweaters, sweatshirts, fleece jackets, and vests with the school logo may be worn in the classroom.
  • Girls must wear modesty shorts under dresses/skirts/jumpers.
  • Boys and girls may wear sneakers with no decoration, lighting, or glitter.  Shoes must be closed toe, lace up or Velcro. Primary children will need a pair of Crocs or Native shoes that remain at school.
  • Sandals, open-toed shoes, or boots of any kind (cowboy, rain, etc.) are not allowed at school.  This includes free dress days.
  • Hair accessories for Primary children should be school colors – red/white/blue.  Please refrain from large or decorative hair accessories.
  • Please do not allow your child to wear anything that will be a distraction at school (e.g. rub on tattoos, nail polish, jewelry, etc.).  If your child’s ears are pierced please have them wear simple stud earrings.  Watches are allowed as long as they are not a distraction and Montessori friendly.
  • Please note that the children go outside every day that weather permits.  Although we may shorten the time outside during weather extremes, the children should wear appropriate protective clothing.  All outside apparel must be clearly labeled with your child’s name.

Mother’s Day Out and Toddler Dress Recommendations:

We ask that Toddler and Mother’s Day Out students wear items of clothing that allow them to assist in their independence, preferably elastic waist shorts or pants with comfortable shirts.  The teachers and staff do their best to protect clothing, but being a toddler is messy! Please do not send them in their Sunday best.  Included below are requirements for the Toddler and Mother’s Day Out children:

  • Consistent with Primary, please do not allow your child to wear anything that will be a distraction at school (e.g. rub on tattoos, nail polish, jewelry, etc.).  If your child’s ears are pierced please have them wear simple stud earrings.
  • Please refrain from clothing with cartoon characters as this distracts the other children and is contrary to Montessori philosophy.
  • The students are asked to wear socks and Velcro shoes.  Most children can learn to independently change shoes that have Velcro tabs.
  • Sandals, open-toed shoes or boots of any kind (cowboy, rain, etc.) are not allowed at school.
  • The children go outside every day that weather permits.  Although we may shorten the time outside during weather extremes, the children should wear appropriate protective clothing.  All outside apparel must be clearly labeled with your child’s name.
  • Potty training toddlers will be asked to change into cotton underpants, leggings and Crocs or Native shoes during the classroom time.
